HOUSTON -

A woman was seriously injured in a car accident in southwest Houston.

Around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said a Subaru with two occupants was speeding northbound on Commerce Park Drive.  The driver lost control of the car near the Southwest Freeway and crashed into a light pole and a tree.

Police said the car also knocked over a sprinkler system control pipe, causing water to spew into the air.

According to reports, the driver managed to escape the vehicle with minor bumps and bruises.  However, his passenger had to be pried out of the car by HFD.  Emergency crews transported her to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police issued the driver a ticket for failure to control speed.

The names of the driver and passenger were not released.
