A driver has been charged after a deadly wrong-way accident in northeast Houston.
The 20-year-old suspected drunk driver is charged with 2 counts of intoxication manslaughter after police said she drove the wrong way causing a fatal crash.
Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called to Beltway 8 on the Aldine Westfield overpass for a crash.
They said the driver was traveling the wrong way when she crashed into a car.
Police said the two people inside, a man and a woman, died.
The driver was taken to the hospital and later booked into the Harris County jail.
Police said wrong way drivers are becoming a common problem.
"It's becoming rare not to see a wrong way driver crash these days," said Officer Andrew Michon with the Houston Police Department. "You have to take precaution, especially at night because between at 2 and 4 0'clock when all the bars let out and all the drunk drivers start coming out they don't know which way they are going. Usually when a person is drinking and driving it's not their first time."
On Sunday morning all eastbound lanes on Beltway 8 were shutdown.
They have since re-opened.
The driver's name and victims' names have not been released.
Police want to remind you to always have a designated driver.
