HOUSTON -

Officials arrested a man they said was selling counterfeit state car inspection certificates to unsuspecting drivers.

Monday, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Emissions Task Force went undercover at a Shell gas station in the 11200 block of Bissonnet Street. Deputy constables said they discovered Edgar Mauricio Barrillas, 31, had sold several fake Texas motor vehicle inspection certificates.

Investigators said Barrillas was selling the counterfeit certificates for $50 each and was selling about four or five each week.

Barrillas was charged with two counts of tampering with a government record -- a second-degree felony.
