HOUSTON -

A deputy shot and killed a suspect wanted by U.S. marshals in northwest Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened on Highway 6 at West Road shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Sky 2 flew over the scene, and a Nissan Cube had bullet holes in it and the back window was shattered.

The U.S. Marshals Service said it tried to stop the man in the Cube, who was wanted on numerous felony warrants, but said he managed to escape.

He ended up getting shot by a Harris County sheriff's deputy, investigators said.

"I seen that cop turn his lights on and get behind the car, and I guess the car wouldn't stop. Actually, he almost ran over one of the cops and then they took fire on him. Boom, boom, boom, boom -- they shot out all the windows. I guess he got hit, and he ended up where he ended up," witness Moe Alyson said.

A bounty hunter told KPRC Local 2 that he had been tracking the suspect for a week or so, and tracked him to a motel, where he got away.

The man had four warrants out for his arrest on charges of escape, assault on his wife and possession of a controlled substance, officials said.

One deputy was injured as he directed traffic, and another was hurt in a wreck on the way to the scene. Both are expected to recover.
