A Rosharon man has admitted to shooting and killing his neighbor's dog Sunday after he claimed the dog was chasing his chickens, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.
Saul Martinez Guzman, 52, was arrested on charges of cruelty to a non-livestock animal, aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest.
Lt. Russ Baker said that when deputies arrived at the scene, Guzman ran back into his home on County Road 574. When he refused to answer the door, deputies said they forced their way in and found Guzman holding a .22-caliber rifle.
Brazoria County deputies could not confirm whether that was the same gun used to shoot the dog.
Guzman was taken into custody and booked into the Brazoria County Jail with bond set at $42,000.
