A Pearland man drowned while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston County sheriff’s deputies said.
According to deputies, on Tuesday, Riley Amick, 24, was with a friend wade fishing in the Gulf of Mexico at Rollover Pass on Bolivar Peninsula around 8:30 a.m.
Deputies said Amick waded about 200 yards from the shoreline and began calling for help. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
A U. S. Coast Guard helicopter called in to assist in the search for Amick. He was found shortly before 10 a.m. hundreds of yards off shore. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies do not suspect any foul play in connection with Amick’s death.
