A downtown Houston department store that's been a Bayou City retail fixture since shortly after World War II will soon close.

Macy's spokeswoman Melissa Goff tells the Houston Chronicle that she expects the store to end its 66-year run Saturday. Only two of the store's 10 floors remain open.

The $13 million building opened at 1110 Main St. in 1947 as the flagship Foley's department store which for years was Houston's biggest department store.

Owner Federated Department Stores rebranded the Foley's store chain Macy's. The Cincinnati-based chain, now called Macy's Inc., announced in January that it would close the store when its lease expires this spring. The owners plan to demolish the building to make way for new retail development.
