HOUSTON -

A man has been accused of shaking his infant son.

Elvin Pomier Jr., 28, has been charged with injury to a child.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Pomier was caring for his 2-month-old son at their home on Oct. 1.  Investigators said Pomier told them the 2-month-old woke up and was fussy and red in the face. The child refused to take any formula, officials said.

Pomier said the baby emitted three loud burps and became limp, investigators said. He then called the pediatrician and called 911.

The baby was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Doctors said Pomier admitted to them that he shook the baby, deputies said. After Pomier stopped shaking the baby, the baby burped three times and became limp, investigators said.

Detectives said the baby suffered bleeding in multiple layers, brain swelling and dead tissue in part of his brain. He is expected to survive, officials said.

Pomier is being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $30,000.
