Crooks break into cars parked at church
While people were inside a church, a thief was outside taking what wasn't his.
Terry Darnell, pastor of Family Life Christian Fellowship, 16425 Old Richmond Road, said burglars are breaking into cars in his parking lot -- again.
A witness reported that a man in an older-model, maroon Dodge Ram pulled into the parking lot about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday and drove off a few minutes later.
Darnell said two vehicles were broken into during that time.
"Apparently he left his car running, he got out," Darnell said. "One car was unlocked, so he took a purse out of that. The next vehicle had a backpack in it and he shattered the window, grabbed the backpack, got in his vehicle and left."
Darnell said there is a camera in the parking lot, which was installed after previous break-ins.
"We had a burglary about three months ago. A car pulled in, left the car unlocked, went in to get their kid and they came out and found a cell and iPad was taken during the middle of the day."
Darnell said he is warning his congregation to be vigilant, even in places where they feel the most safe.
"People are going in looking and if they see a cellphone, if they see something, they'll break in your car," Darnell said. "Lock your car but also take all your valuables."
