HOUSTON -

A crime victim says she chased the man who stole her purse as she was putting groceries in her car.

The purse snatching happened at the Walmart on Dunvale near Westheimer in southwest Houston.

According to the victim, a man pulled up beside her Tuesday morning while she was loading groceries. Her purse was in her shopping cart at the time.

"I turned and I looked at him and I was like, 'What?' I saw his hand come out and it didn't register to me. And then I saw my wallet and by that time it was just too late. And I turned around and I started running after him," said the woman. "I saw him laugh as he pulled off. I think that is what makes me the most upset, is just knowing he knew he got away with it."

The victim told Local 2 she didn't want to let the man get away. She said she dialed 911 as she ran after him.

"I ran after the car and I just started screaming because I know other people were in the parking lot. And all I wanted them to do is turn around and look at him so there would be more people who would look and maybe get his license plate or what not," she said.

The victim said she wasn't able to catch up with the thief and he got away with her driver's license, credit cards and about $300.

The woman said she believes the man was in his 20s or 30s and drove a dark Ford Escape.

She said she believes the man may have targeted her and drove up to her to steal the purse.

The Houston Police Department is investigating.
