Couple robs cabbie, passengers on street
A cab driver and his passengers were robbed and the cabbie was shot in Bellaire.
Bellaire police said the cab has just pulled up to a house in the 4300 block of Phil at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when a gunman walked up and put a pistol on the driver's leg.
The gunman stole the cabbie's wallet and $80. A woman with the gunman robbed the man and woman in the back seat of the cab, police said.
The gunman fired a shot into the front seat that grazed the driver's leg, police said. He was treated and released from a local hospital.
Earlier in the evening, police said the same couple is believed to have robbed a man in his car near the Southwest Freeway at Beechnut Street.
"He opened the door. He put a gun to my leg and said, 'Give me the money,'" victim L. Ren said.
Ren said he handed over his wallet, but the gunman punched him before he ran to the getaway car.
The robbers escaped.
"We are working a number of leads. We know the suspects tried to use one of the credit cards so we are following up on that," said Chief Byron Holloway with the Bellaire Police Department.
