CONROE, Texas -

Authorities say they arrested a man on Wednesday accused of possessing child pornography.

After a lengthy investigation, Montgomery County officials announced several charges against John Charles Fortner, including a total of five counts of possession of child pornography, a third degree felony.

District attorneys say the charges allege that Fortner knowingly obtained and possessed multiple images of videos of child pornography with male and female victims, ranging in age from 7 to 15 years old.

The images and videos depict children and adults engaging in sex acts together, according to district attorneys.

During the investigation and search of Fortner's electronic devices, officials said new information revealed that there may be unidentified victims of additional offenses.

"That's the reason we'd like to get the word out," said Montgomery County District Attorney Jeff Hohl. "Any type of crime like this is obviously extremely important to our office. We're talking about children. We're talking about violation of children. So, we take these very seriously. And we're going to do everything we can to see this through."

Authorities said the devices containing the content include his computers and cellphone, which contain statements regarding the possible abuse of local children and at least one parent threatening him for molesting a child.

District attorneys said Fortner was known to reside at 3300 N Loop 336 W, Apartment 628 and drove a 2001 Dodge Dakota.

In addition, authorities said the investigation has shown that Fortner has traveled significantly throughout the US, including:

  • Maryland - July 2012
  • Houston - August 2012
  • Florida - September 2012
  • Louisiana - September 2012

  • Brownsville - December 2012
  • San Antonio - December 2012
  • Pennsylvania - January 2013

A third degree felony count carries a punishment range of probation of 2 to 10 years in prison, and up to a $10,000 fine.
