Community searches for rapist who targeted HISD student
Activists: 'We've got to send a message to child predators'
Several community leaders took to the streets Sunday, passing out fliers in an effort to help track down a rapist.
"We've got to send a message to the predators in this city that your days are numbered," said community activist Deric Muhammad. "We have to send a message to the child predators in this city, that when you put your hands on our children at some point you have to expect repercussions."
The sexual assault happened on Wednesday, Oct. 24. in the 7300 block of Scott Street, near Noah in southeast Houston.
According to investigators, the 15-year-old girl was on her way home from Yates High School. Officials said the teenager left campus to get on a METRO bus. After she stepped off the bus, police said a man drove up next to her and asked her if she wanted to get in. The girl refused and the man forced her into the truck and later raped her, officials said.
Muhammad said he knows where the man took the girl to rape her. It's a run-down home in the neighborhood, and he said there are homes like this all over the city. All of which need to be torn down.
"A house like this should not be standing in a community where human beings live," Muhammad said. "There's no use for a structure such as this except for criminal activity."
