HOUSTON -

Nearly two dozen men were arrested during what police call a cockfighting operation.

Approximately 20 men were arrested Sunday night on Martindale Road and Selinsky Road in southeast Houston. Animal control officials said they found 14 roosters alive and nine dead. They believe the animals were being used to fight.

Officers are still working on charges, but there could be animal cruelty charges.

The case is being handed over to the Major Offenders Unit.
