Clinic, doctor ordered to pay woman injured in surgery
Kelsey-Seybold, Dr. Jim Binge ordered to pay $1.9 million judgment
A Houston clinic and one of its doctors have been ordered to pay a patient after she was severely injured in a surgery.
The woman went in for a hysterectomy in August 2008 with the understanding that Dr. Jim Benge would be her surgery.
After the women went under anesthesia, her attorneys said a Kelsey-Seybold Clinic resident performed almost half the surgery without her knowledge.
Several of the woman's organs were punctured during the surgery. She spent three weeks in a coma and ended up with a permanent colostomy.
The woman has undergone five additional surgeries for complications.
The woman sued Kelsey-Seybold and Binge. A Harris County jury awarded the woman $1.9 million.
Kelsey-Seybold declined to comment because of the ongoing nature of the lawsuit.
