US Labor Department says Dallas company that hangs Christmas lights a Scrooge with worker pay

DALLAS -

The U.S. Department of Labor is accusing a Dallas-based company that hangs Christmas lights of being a Scrooge when it comes to paying its workers.

The Christmas Light Co. Inc. and owner William F. Rathburn are accused of not paying more than $240,000 in wages and an additional amount in damages to 233 employees who installed and removed Christmas lights.

In its lawsuit filed earlier this week in Dallas federal court, the Labor Department says the company did not pay workers the minimum and overtime wages required by law. The agency accuses the company of paying employees a flat rate for installing and removing Christmas lights without regard to the number of hours the employees had worked.

Court records did not list an attorney for the company.
