A carjacking at knifepoint turned into a five-mile police chase through downtown Houston, ending in a Walmart parking lot.
Around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, HPD received a call about a carjacking on Ella Boulevard and 43rd Street. When they arrived at the scene, officers discovered the stolen truck had a GPS installed so they followed the signal. As they approached Heights Boulevard and Interstate 10, the signal disappeared.
Police said one patrol unit turned onto Yale Street into a Walmart parking lot and found the stolen vehicle and the accused thief, who had disabled the GPS when he realized it was activated.
Investigators said a BB gun and a knife were found on the suspect. He was arrested, and the carjacking victims confirmed his identity.
