HOUSTON -

With large Leslie forecast to be a hurricane impacting Bermuda by this weekend and miniscule Michael spinning way out in the Atlantic, the folks back at the National Hurricane Center are quite busy this week.  Only Leslie poses a threat to the eastern seaboard of the United State with large waves and rip currents.

Of interest locally is the small, low-pressure system as seen in this satellite picture emerging into the gulf from the Deep South.  Sometimes when these clusters of thunderstorm emerge from land into the Gulf, they transform into tropical cyclones.  In fact, Hurricane Alicia in 1983 formed from just such a system.  The system is forecast to be over the northeast and north central Gulf later today through Friday, after which our approaching cold front Friday and Saturday should steer this disturbance off to the east or northeast.  NHC gives this system a 20 percent chance of becoming a depression or tropical storm today or tomorrow.
