Babysitter charged in toddler's disappearance
Jessica Denise Garcia
A babysitter has been charged in connection with the disappearance of a 2-year-old girl that prompted an Amber Alert.
Jessica Denise Garcia, 29, has been charged with unlawful restraint of a child.
Pasadena police said Garcia picked up Melanie Mirales, 2, and her mother on Jan. 25 and took the mother to work at a Walmart store.
Garcia and the toddler were supposed to pick the mom up from work several hours later, but they did not show up, investigators said.
The mother called friends and relatives hoping to find the two, but ended up calling police a few hours later and an Amber Alert was issued.
Garcia's car was found crashed in a ditch, and Melanie was inside. She was returned to her mother.
Police said they questioned Garcia about what happened and she said went to visit a friend in Channelview and forgot to pick up the mother. She said she crashed her car on the way back to Pasadena, investigators said.
