A man was shot and killed after a low-speed chase with deputies, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect was identified as Gregory Allen Bridges, 44, of Harris County.
Just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety was investigating a hit and run accident on Highway 245 and Highway 242 in Montgomery County.
Troopers were able to get a good description of the car involved, and put out a "Be On The Look Out" alert to area law enforcement.
Deputies spotted a black 2005 Kia and tried to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver refused to pull over and lead deputies on a slow-speed chase.
Once the Kia got to Sawdust Road near I-45 in the Woodlands, deputies used stop sticks to get the driver to stop.
His tires were damaged and deflated, but the driver kept driving on his rims.
He eventually turned into a parking lot.
There was no exit in the parking lot, but the driver was trying to find a way out.
After two times around the lot, he drove towards a deputy who was standing in the parking lot.
The deputy pulled out his weapons and fired three shots at the suspect.
One bullet hit the suspect in the upper chest.
He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
The deputy who fired the fatal shots has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for a little more than a year.
He is now on administrative leave while the case is investigated.
Deputies were not releasing the name of the victim, they would only say he was in his mid-forties.
Deputies still had not been able to search the suspects car to see if he had a weapon or anything else that would have explained his behavior.
They said the original accident scene he left was very minor.
The Texas Rangers, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and Department of Public Safety are all expected to take part in the investigation.
