Assistant principal faces drug charges
John Hayman works at Galveston's Austin Middle School
A middle school assistant principal was arrested during a raid at an adult video store.
John Hayman, 33, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. Hayman is an assistant principal at Austin Middle School in Galveston.
Houston police said vice officers ran an undercover operation at Excellence 24/7 Video on Nov. 4 after receiving complaints of indecent exposure and prostitution.
Officers said they told all of the customers to get out of the store for questioning, but they found one private room door that was locked. When they unlocked it, detectives said they found Hayman inside.
Police said they searched Hayman and found crystal meth in his possession.
According to the Galveston Independent School District, Hayman was placed on paid administrative leave on Nov. 5, pending the outcome of the police investigation. He has been employed by the school district since 2006.
School district officials said they do not normally notify parents about legal or criminal matters involving staff members, but they planned to send out a letter because they have received many inquires.
Hayman was released from jail after posting $2,000 bond.
