A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run of a teenager in southwest Houston.
A 16-year-old named Gena was crossing Fondren Road at Bellaire Boulevard with her 14-year-old sister when police said Gena was hit by a white SUV shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The two were going to Walgreens to get water for their newborn sibling.
Investigators said someone watching Local 2 called them with information on the case and helped catch the suspect. Police said that driver took off and also hit a white van in the intersection. Christopher Hargroder, 29, was charged with failure to stop and render aid, a felony.
Sources told KPRC that Hargroder said he made a bad decision and was remorseful.
Police said Gena flew up into the air and landed on the hood of a dark-colored vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle also did not stop to help.
Gena was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Police said she suffered internal head injuries and broken bones in her lower extremities.
