America Remembers: Fallen Houston firefighter to be honored
Anthony Tortorice to be added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial
The names of several local firefighters are being added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial, in honor of the Sept. 11, 200,1 terror attacks.
Among the nine local names set to be added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial is a man who died after helping in the aftermath of the attacks.
In the days after the attacks in New York City, Houston firefighter Capt. Anthony Tortorice, along with others from the Texas Task Force, spent two weeks helping with search and rescue at Ground Zero.
Tortorice, along with the names of eight other Houston firefighters, will be added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs, Co., this weekend, honoring firefighters killed in the line of duty.
Jeff Canyon, the president of the Houston Firefighters Association, talked about Tortorice on Tuesday.
"If he were sitting here, he'd tell you he'd do it again He considered it an honor," he said. "Come Saturday, Capt. Tortorice will be honored by those who loved him."
