Amarillo ex-teacher pleads to sex charges
Former Amarillo elementary teacher pleads to sex charges; will serve jail time, probation
A former Amarillo elementary school teacher has received six months' jail time after pleading guilty to engaging in illegal sexual contact with a minor.
The Amarillo Globe-News reports that Julie Ann Moore pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child. Each charge was in a separate county.
Local district attorney Randall Sims tells the newspaper that Moore was ordered to serve 180 days in jail, give up her teacher's license and register as a sex offender. She will also receive 10 years of deferred probation.
A Dec. 2 complaint filed by the Texas Rangers accuses Moore of having sex with a 15-year-old high school student.
She turned herself in four days later and resigned from her teaching job shortly afterward.
