Airline Passengers Worry About Safety
POSTED: Monday, September 11, 2006
HOUSTON -- Airline passengers have mixed feelings as to whether or not they are safer in the air today than they were five years ago, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Travelers and security screeners at Hobby Airport observed a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. to remember those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"I feel safer," traveler Patrick Washington said. "I think everybody's aware of everything that's going on and definitely today helps us keep in remembrance of what happened on that day."
One passenger said she would do anything that is needed to ensure her safety.
"I'd be willing to give up more to be safer," passenger Michelle App said. "I'll do what I have to do. I'd rather be safer and have less liberties than to have more liberty and be afraid."
Some passengers said they do not feel safer today than they did before the attacks.
"No, not anymore safe," passenger Freda Bruce said. "I'm sure it's much better than it used to be. I'm a skeptical person."
