HPD: Fatal Carjacking Victim's Credit Card Used

POSTED: Thursday, August 31, 2006
UPDATED: 5:13 pm CDT August 31, 2006

Two people used a credit card belonging to a woman who died after she was apparently carjacked, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Police released surveillance video of a man and a woman who police said used one of Jeanette Gonzales' credit cards to make a purchase at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in the 3500 block of state Highway 6 South at about 12:40 a.m. Monday.

Police questioned two people Thursday who match the description of the people seen on the video. Officials did not call them suspects or persons of interest.

Police said Gonzales, 23, was apparently kidnapped in a carjacking in the parking lot of the Hong Kong Food Market on Bellaire Boulevard near Boone Road at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses saw Gonzales either be pushed out of or jump from her vehicle just east of the intersection of Westheimer Road and South Kirkwood Road about 30 minutes later.

Gonzales suffered severe head trauma and died on Monday.

Police said Gonzales' 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse was found abandoned at a gas station in the 10000 block of Beechnut Street early Monday.

Jeanette Gonzales' father wants to know why this happened to his daughter.

"All I want to know is why did the do this to my daughter," father Alejandro Gonzales said. "Did they really have to kill my daughter? They can even have the car."

Jeanette Gonzales once told her family that she would do anything necessary to survive if she was ever abducted.

"She told us whenever it happened to her that she would definitely do what it takes just to move out from them, to get away from them," Alejandro Gonzales said.

Anyone who recognizes the persons in the surveillance video or has information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
