13-Year-Old Found Safe, Amber Alert Canceled

POSTED: Friday, August 18, 2006

An Amber Alert issued for a 13-year-old girl Thursday was canceled when she was found safe with a convicted sex offender, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said Marlena Esquivel was found with Larry Wayne Parker at a METRO bus stop on Travis Street near Lamar Street Thursday night.

Police said Esquivel left willingly with Parker after he had an argument with her mother on Wednesday.

Parker has been living with Esquivel's mother for about six weeks and failed to notify the state that he had moved, officials said.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's sex offender database, Parker was convicted in 1997 of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female.

Parker will appear in court Friday for a hearing on a charge of failure to comply with sexual registration requirements.

Police said Parker has not been charged with anything in connection with the Amber Alert.
