Former Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Students

POSTED: Wednesday, August 2, 2006
UPDATED: 5:14 pm CDT August 2, 2006

A former teacher was charged with sexually assaulting students, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said Lisa Minchew, 28, sexually assaulted students ranging in age from 14 to 16 years old.

Minchew was an art teacher at Magnolia High School when she was suspended with pay for allegedly bringing alcohol to a student party and allegedly getting too close to some of her students.

"Some of the people there complained that a teacher from the school district was having sex with one or several of the children," said Lt. Joel Sclider with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The district terminated her on March 26.

After a six-month investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Minchew was charged and arrested at her Conroe home.

Investigators said many of the details did not come to light until Minchew showed up at another teenage party last month where she once again brought alcohol.

"Some children (who) had been there, had been involved in an accident after they had been drinking," Sclider said.

Officials said the students were in her car when they crashed after driving drunk. That's when they said the students began to provide more information and evidence about the alleged sexual assaults.

Minchew was charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child

The Magnolia ISD superintendent declined an interview, but issued a statement.

"We've taken the appropriate action. She's no longer a teacher in this district," superintendent Michael Holland said.

Investigators said more action might be taken against Minchew.

"We believe there may be more students out there that have not come forward," Sclider said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 800-392-STOP.
