HOUSTON -- Four men were arrested in an online child sex predator sting operation, officials told KPRC Local 2 Tuesday.
It started with the Shenandoah Police Department after they decided to set up a sting in Internet chat rooms.
The two-week undercover operation resulted in four arrests. Officials said the men traveled to Houston to have sex with what they thought was a 13 or 14-year-old girl they met online.
It was actually an investigator with the Texas Attorney General's Office.
"There's a group of people in this country and in this state who are also using the Internet as a playground, and those are child predators," Attorney General Greg Abbott said.
Shenandoah police arrested William Noel Shrum, 25, of The Woodlands; Guadalupe "Wally" DeLaGarza, 26, of College Station; Robert Wayne Ramirez, 40, of Needville; and Calvin Hoddy Hannah Jr., 51, of Owasso, Okla.
"One of the men arrested brought sexual devices and a gun," Abbott said. "Another man showed up in an 18-wheeler. Another man traveled 500 miles from another state with one intent in mind -- to sexually assault a 13 or 14-year-old girl."
Two of the men were arrested at an apartment set up for the sting.
Ramirez, a long-haul truck driver, was handcuffed while waiting in his big rig to meet the girl for sex, according to authorities.
"The truck driver actually said that he was about to call us and let us know that this was going on," said Chief John Chancellor with the Shenandoah Police Department.
Abbott had a warning for online predators.
"We're going to find you. We'll arrest you and we'll put you behind bars," Abbott said.
The suspects face attempted aggravated sexual assault of a child and online solicitation of a minor.
