The president of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitor's Bureau is taking a leave of absence, days after the Troubleshooters aired an investigation into his behavior while on the job, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

A special meeting of the convention bureau board's executive committee was held Thursday morning.

President Jordy Tollett asked for an extended leave of absence after admitting he is seeking professional help for personal problems.

While neither Tollett nor the board's executive committee would discuss how long he would be gone, it could be several months before Tollett returns to the bureau.

On Monday, the Troubleshooters showed Tollett taking up two or more hour lunches at a popular Houston bar. During the lunches, the Troubleshooters' cameras spotted Tollett being served several drinks from the bar before getting into his car and heading back to work.

The investigation prompted the bureau's executive committee to hold a special meeting Thursday. Tollett addressed the committee for about 15 minutes in a closed-door session and then left without answering any questions.

"Jordy recognized he had a problem. Jordy is seeking professional help," board Chairman Doug Horn said.

Horn said Tollett requested the meeting. Horn would not discuss what problems Tollett told them he was having or what type of treatment he is seeking.

"He's done an outstanding job for the city, and we recognize that Jordy, in his manner, came to us and asked us to do this, and we think that we owe him that obligation," Horn said.

The board granted the extended leave of absence, which will begin on Monday.

"I have no idea how long he'll be gone. It will be based on his doctor's advice," Horn said.

Tollett has 60 vacation days owed to him. Beyond that, he has also asked for time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Tollett's employment contract with the bureau expires in February, and the board said it would review its options once Tollett returns from leave.
