HOUSTON -- Road rage might have been the cause for a shooting on a freeway Thursday, officials told KPRC Local 2.
Police said someone inside a pickup truck allegedly opened fire on a car on the East Freeway near Normandy Street shortly after midnight.
Officials said the driver of the pickup truck allegedly chased a Ford Tempo down Texarkana Street and the two vehicles ended up on the freeway.
An 18-wheeler somehow ended up between the two vehicles. Police said a bullet fired from the pickup truck went through the cab of the 18-wheeler and hit the driver.
The 18-wheeler driver was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Tempo pulled over at a gas station to speak with police. The pickup truck, with three passengers inside, pulled into different gas station nearby.
Officials said that the men in the pickup ran when officers approached them.
One man ran inside the store and was apprehended, police said. Another man was arrested at the gas pumps and a third man got away, police said.
Officials said the brother of the Tempo's driver thought he saw the third man walking by the Shell station. Police said the brother attacked the man, punching him several times.
Authorities said the man was just walking by the station and was not involved in the shooting.
Police arrested the brother on assault charges.
