HOUSTON -- The parents of a teenager who was attacked at a party shared accounts of the pain their family is going through Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Their 17-year-old son cannot walk or talk. He can only communicate through a notepad.
The boy was beaten and sodomized at a party in Spring in April.
The family said the boy does not have just physical problems. He has problems understanding why this happened to him.
"He's in a lot of pain," the victim's mother said. "A whole lot of pain."
The boy's parents said their son is lucky to be alive.
"There's some carvings on his chest," the victim's father said.
"I think they were attempting to try to make a swastika on his chest," the boy's mother said.
The Galvans said they think their son was the victim of a hate crime. They believe he was targeted because he is Hispanic.
"To cause him so much pain, nobody in here will ever understand the stuff that's he's going through," the boy's mother said.
The district attorney has not leveled any hate crime charges against the two suspects, Keith Turner and David Tuck
The family's attorney has a theory why.
"He's not going to make his job tougher if at the end of the day there's no prize," attorney Carlos Leon said.
The Galvans and their attorney said hate crime punishments are not stiff enough.
Turner and Tuck are charged with aggravated sexual assault.
"Just get them in a room by myself and see what the outcome would be," the boy's father said. "But that's not the way to do it."
Turner and Tuck are in the Harris County Jail without bond.
The victim remains hospitalized with several more surgeries needed before he can be released.
