A Houston-area man said he survived being kidnapped and robbed by five people charged with 15 counts of capital murder in a violent crime spree spanning weeks, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday in an exclusive story.

The 18-year-old man, who was only identified as "Vince," said he was carjacked and kidnapped in front of his home.

"They stopped right in front of my (car) door, they rolled down the window and they pointed a gun at me," Vince said. "They told me not to move and not to say anything -- not do anything stupid."

He was kidnapped one day after Sally Aparece, 23, and Huy Ngo, 17, were carjacked and killed.

Vince said he recognized Timothy Randle, 18; Dexter Johnson, 18; Keithron Fields, 17; Alvie Butler, 22; and Ashley Ervin, 17, when their pictures were shown on television after their arrests for Aparece's and Ngo's murders.

Vince said the group debated killing him at one point.

"(They argued) whether or not they should kill me because I had a good look at everybody," he said.

While the captors argued, Vince said, he took mental notes.

"I had a good look at Dexter. He was driving the blue Matrix. He wanted to kill me," Vince said.

Police said Johnson was the ringleader and triggerman in the couple's murders.

Vince said other members of the group successfully pushed for him to be let go.

"I'm just thinking through my head, 'They're just probably going to shoot me, then open the door and kick me out and throw me out.' But next thing you know, they just opened the door and said this is my stop and they just pushed me out while driving," Vince said.

Vince was able to get to a phone and call for help.

"I ask myself every day, 'Why did they let me go?' I really don't know," he said.

The five suspects are being held in the Harris County jail without bond.

Aparece's and Ngo's bodies were discovered Friday in an overgrown lot days after they disappeared June 18 when they were carjacked.

Authorities said Johnson and Fields led the group. Butler is Randle's uncle; Ervin is Randle's cousin and Fields' girlfriend.

Police said the crime spree began May 26 with the slaying of retired wood shop teacher Brady Davis, 61. It ended around June 20 when Jose Lopez was found fatally shot.

Investigators said Davis was attacked at gunpoint by Johnson and Fields at a car wash. He was found next to his truck, dead from a single gunshot wound.

Lopez was carjacked when he stopped at a co-worker's home. He was forced into the back seat of his car, robbed, shot and left in his vehicle, officials said.

Detectives are looking into other cases to see if the suspects can be linked to more crimes, including the shooting death of Guadencio Bahena, 32, on June 14 in northeast Houston.
