11-Year-Old Shot At Missouri City Home

Police: Shooting Was Accidental

POSTED: Tuesday, June 27, 2006
UPDATED: 11:53 am CDT June 27, 2006

An 11-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the chest by a 13-year-old boy, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Police said they found the boy on the kitchen floor of his home in the 2300 block of La Qunita Drive in Missouri City at about 11 p.m. Monday.

Officials said it appears that the boys, who are cousins, were playing with the gun.

"Apparently the boys, while playing, found the weapon in the father's bedroom," said Capt. John Bailey of the Missouri City Police Department. "They took that weapon and started playing in the boy's bedroom. During the course of playing with the gun, it discharged."

"We have every reason to believe it was an accident," Bailey said.

Officials said the parents of the 11-year-old were at home when the shooting happened. The boy's mother called 911.

The boy was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He was last reported to be in stable condition.
