A tire flew off a car traveling in northwest Harris County and smashed into a sport utility vehicle's windshield, causing a major accident Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the tire came off an Infiniti that was traveling southbound on Beltway 8 near West Road shortly before 11 a.m. The tire then bounced into the southbound lanes, where it struck the roof of the SUV. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries.

Another vehicle then hit the tire and was damaged.

The driver of the Infiniti lost control of her vehicle when the tire was lost and hit a retaining wall. She was hospitalized in good condition.

The Harris County Sheriff's Department and Precinct 4 deputy constables are investigating the accident.

Traffic was delayed in the area until the scene was cleared.
