A woman has been charged in connection with a fire her 4-year-old son likely caused, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Officials said the fire started at an apartment on Coke Street near Calles Street at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Officials said a neighbor knocked down the door of the apartment because he thought children could be inside.

Police said Jessica Ann Barber, 21, left her 4-year-old son home alone for several hours.

Officials said the boy told them he had played with matches near a mattress.

Police said the boy wandered out of the apartment. He was found and transported to a hospital to be checked for injuries.

Officials said Barber has been charged with abandoning a child. Officials said she was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft.

The 4-year-old boy has been released from the hospital.

Child Protective Services is working with family members to place the child. CPS officials said they are also trying to locate Barber's three other children.
