HOUSTON -- A teenage boy was beaten and stabbed to death as he played basketball in a Montrose-area park Tuesday afternoon as part of a gang turf war, police told KPRC Local 2.
Witnesses said a group of teenagers was playing basketball at the park on Lexington at Woodhead Road at about 2:40 p.m. when more than a dozen others showed up a short time later armed with baseball bats, tire irons and golf clubs.
Officials said the groups were rival gangs.
The second gang then attacked the first gang, investigators said.
"They all just pulled up in about four cars and they all came from both directions," said a witness who did not want to be identified.
A 16-year-old girl is suspected of beating and stabbing the 14-year-old to death in the park, according to authorities.
Everyone fled the scene.
Detectives said baseball bats and a car were left at the park and could provide clues to the attackers' identities.
Police said between 25 and 30 gang members were involved in the deadly altercation.
The victim's identity was not released.
