HOUSTON -- A man was arrested after he led deputies on a chase, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Officials said the chase began on West Dallas Street near Columbus Street at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after a driver almost hit a sheriff deputy's unit.
"The vehicle ran a red light and came across into my lane of traffic and almost hit me head-on," Harris County sheriff's Deputy Gary Chelette said.
Deputies said the chase lasted about 15 minutes and went through Montrose and River Oaks, ending on South Shepherd Drive near Chilton Road.
The driver crashed his truck in between two trees in a River Oaks resident's front yard.
"He's going in between all our cars and a big power line," resident Dennis Smith said. "Meanwhile, he's taking out mailboxes, all the flower beds, cinder blocks everywhere."
The driver was trapped inside the pickup. He was arrested after he was rescued.
Officials said a passenger in the truck tried to escape on foot and was arrested.
Officials said the driver could be charged with felony evading arrest. The driver also has an open warrant out of San Antonio.
