HOUSTON -- Thousands of Houston Independent School District students will graduate from high school this weekend, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
The class of 2006 will be composed of more than 7,700 students, including more than 100 students who fled New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck last year.
School district officials said that students have been awarded about $60 million in college scholarships so far.
HISD is the largest school district in Texas and the seventh-largest school district in the United States.
The graduation schedule can be found on the
Houston ISD Web site.
Officials said they encourage families to arrive to the graduation ceremonies early to accommodate parking and seating needs.
