UPDATED: 11:48 am CDT May 18, 2006

A three-alarm fire broke out Thursday morning at a northwest Harris County window company, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Fire crews were called to Champion Window Corp., located at 12427 Duncan Road, at about 4:40 a.m.

Flames and heavy smoke were pouring from a warehouse at the 27-acre complex when firefighters arrived. Some nearby trees also caught fire.

Smoke could be seen for miles.

Six volunteer fire departments responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 7 a.m.

Employees were sent home when they showed up to work.

No injuries were reported.

The cause is not yet known, but officials said welding gas might be a factor.
