HOUSTON -- A Houston high school student was arrested at school Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston Independent School District police arrested the 18-year-old student at Sam Houston High School, located at 9400 Irvington Boulevard at Tidwell Road in north Houston.
School district officials said the student was charged with drug possession with the intent to distribute.
Officials said a search of the student's locker found 43 Xanax tablets and 10 ounces of marijuana. They also found a list containing about 30 names, with an amount of money next to each name.
HISD police Officer Veronica Robles said the student was referred to an alternative school in the past on other drug charges. The student returned to Sam Houston this year.
"This was great work by our police officers and school administrators, and by the other Sam Houston High School students who came forward with this information," school district Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra said. "They don't want drugs on their campus."
Saavedra also reminded students that the district will not tolerate drugs at any school.
The student could face up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, if convicted.
