Records: Beating Suspect Linked To 2003 Attack

Neighbors Describe Tuck As Racist Skinhead

A teen accused of beating and sodomizing a Hispanic boy while shouting racial slurs also joined two adult white supremacists in the beating of a Hispanic man three years ago, according to court records.

The victim of the earlier attack, a 53-year-old man who declined to be identified for fear of his safety, showed court records from the case that was handled as a federal civil rights violation.

The man said he was pumping gas in 2003 in the same Houston suburb where the more recent beating occurred when three skinheads covered in Nazi tattoos beat him unconscious, shouting racial epithets. He identified one attacker as David Henry Tuck.

Tuck, 18, and Keith Robert Turner, 17, have been charged with aggravated sexual assault in the attack this year.

The victim of the 2003 beating said Tuck was with Fletcher Smith III and Charles Douglas Brannon, both charged with civil rights violations. Smith served 74 days in jail, and Brannon served 37. The third attacker is referred to in the file as D.T. Because Tuck was 14, his records were sealed.

"Doug said if he saw a Mexican, he was going to start crap," said Smith's ex-wife, Amanda Smith.

The 2003 victim's wife told KPRC Local 2 that her husband is angry.

"How could this happen again? We thought (Tuck) was in jail," the wife said.

In the April 23 attack, authorities said the suspects stomped the Hispanic boy's head with steel-toed boots, carved on him with a knife, burned him with cigarettes and sodomized him with the pole of a patio-table umbrella.

Authorities said they were offended by the teen's advances toward a 12-year-old girl who was having a get-together with them at her house. Her mother was home, but slept through the attack. Tuck told a Houston television station in a jailhouse interview that he had been drinking vodka and was high on cocaine, marijuana and Xanax and believed the girl had been raped by the 17-year-old. The girl and the beating victim, who was not identified because he is a juvenile victim of sexual assault, kissed but there is no evidence of sexual activity, authorities said.

"When you tell people who are on drugs something like that (the rape), you're going to fight," Tuck said.

Tuck also told the station he was "worried about his mother, that she's going to be harmed." Court records showed that Smith lived in Tuck's house at the time of the gas-station assault, but Tuck's mother has denied her son had any white-supremacist tendencies.

Several neighbors describe Tuck and his brother as racist skinheads.

"The parade of the Nazi flag down the street on Martin Luther King Day. Most of the activity was from an older brother -- the 'Hail Hitler' sign. He did that as he walked down the street and he'd come in contact with people. (He) had a tattoo of Hitler on his body somewhere. He made it very clear that he was a skinhead and those were his beliefs," neighbor Robin Storrs said.

The teenage victim remained in critical condition Wednesday.
