UPS Driver Arrested In 1990 Slaying

Victim Called 911 Moments Before Death

POSTED: Tuesday, May 2, 2006
UPDATED: 5:30 pm CDT May 2, 2006

A man driving a UPS truck was arrested at work Monday in connection with a slaying from 16 years ago, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Investigators said Edward George McGregor stabbed Kim Louise Wildman, 38, in her home in the 1400 block of Whispering Pine Drive in 1990.

"This was a very savage, brutal killing that did involve intrusion, sexual assault," said Detective Andi Wiltse with the Missouri City Police Department.

Wildman was able to call 911 after the attacker escaped. Her body was found in the kitchen next to the phone.

McGregor was 17 at the time of the crime. Detectives said he lived near Wildman and chose her randomly.

He was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. Monday while at work driving a UPS delivery truck in southwest Houston.

Investigators credit old-fashioned police work and cooperation for the arrest.

"We were able to do a comparison and the DNA from Houston's case was an exact match for the DNA in our case," Wiltse said.

McGregor has a criminal record, including aggravated assault.

He is being held on a $1 million bond.
