Adolescent's Skull Found In Woods

Remains Could Be 10 Years Old

UPDATED: 11:57 am CDT April 26, 2006

The partial skull of an adolescent was found in a Galveston County field, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

Officials said a man found the remains Tuesday near a cemetery on Avenue M and 28th Street in Santa Fe, but the skull is not believed to be from a grave.

The medical examiner confirmed the skull belonged to an adolescent and has probably been in the field for five to 10 years.

Texas EquuSearch began looking for more remains and clues about the person's identity.

"We know we do have some young girls that have been missing for quite some time real close to this area," said Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch.

"Right now it's just a process where we check all missing persons and see if there's one in this area or any area of Texas that may match up. And then it's the process of elimination," said Sgt. John Putnam with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Cadaver dogs were brought in to help with the search through the thick brush.

Searchers said it could take as many as three days to cover the area.
