9 puppies found abandoned outside of Liberty shelter

LIBERTY, Texas – Animal control officers in Liberty found a surprise package Tuesday in front of the Pals of the Pound shelter.

Nine puppies of mix breed covered in fleas were stuffed in a fold up dog crate abandoned in front of the shelter.

Pals of the Pound treasurer Tracy Williams said all the puppies, five females and four males, were in good condition, but they do not know where they came from.

"That's what happens with situations like this. We don't know the background," Williams said.

Fortunately, there are no signs of neglect or abuse.

"They're all pretty healthy. They are active, eating and barking," Liberty animal control officer Whitney Holland said.

The puppies were given their first set of shots, have been de-wormed and are ready to be placed in a loving home. Pals of the Pound is also working with several rescue groups to help the puppies get adopted.

For more information about the puppies, contact Pals of the Pound at palsofthepound@gmail.com or 936-336-5666.

Pals of the Pound helps to find homes for animals and raises money for spay and neutering.
