Missing Boy's Father Charged With Firearms Possession

Man Taken Back Into Custody After Posting Bond

POSTED: Friday, April 21, 2006
UPDATED: 5:22 pm CDT April 21, 2006

The father of a missing 3-year-old boy remained behind bars Friday, despite posting bond, after he was charged with another crime, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The family of Roderick Fountain posted his $100,000 bond overnight.

As he walked out of the Harris County jail, Fountain was taken back into custody and charged with a federal felony of illegal possession of a firearm.

The U.S. Attorney's office said Houston police detectives located a shotgun in Fountain's bedroom closet.

"Mr. Fountain is looking at a maximum of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine for the simple act of possessing that firearm, having been convicted previously of a felony," said Don DeGabrielle with the U.S. Attorney's office.

Authorities said Fountain was convicted of robbery in California in 1997. It's a federal crime for a convicted felon to carry a firearm.

Texas EquuSearch: Kendrick Jackson Flier

Kendrick Jackson disappeared from his father's southwest Houston apartment April 7. Fountain is considered a suspect in the case. He was charged with injury to a child and filing a false police report shortly after the boy disappeared. The injury to a child charge was later dismissed.

New Black Panther Party leader Quanell X is a spokesman for the family. He said they hoped Fountain could help with the investigation.

"That's our No. 1 goal -- hoping he would be released and that he would go with us back out into the community and see what new leads we could track down," Quanell X said.

Search crews said they won't start looking again for Kendrick unless a new lead surfaces.

The family plans to convene Sunday at the apartment where Kendrick was last seen in hopes of uncovering new information.

Anyone with information about Kendrick's whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
