HOUSTON -- A driver who rescuers pulled out of a northwest Harris County bayou later died at a local hospital, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Steven Adames' vehicle plunged 20 feet into the bayou after he lost control of his car on Barker-Cypress Road near West Road at about 10 p.m., according to officials.
There were no witnesses, so rescuers searched the waterway to find out if there were any passengers.
"We've had some secondary reports of possibly a female occupant in the vehicle, so we're just going through the bayou, making sure there's nobody else down there," said Michael Gallegos with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.
No one else was in the vehicle.
"There's a pretty big ding in the passenger-side door. There's also substantial damage to the driver's side windshield. Other than that, the car looks pretty unscathed considering the drop that it took," Gallegos said.
LifeFlight Helicopter took Adames to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He passed away hours later.
There's no word on why he lost control of the vehicle.
