Searchers Hope Blanket Belongs To Missing Boy, 3

Volunteers Retracing Areas Already Searched

A blanket with NFL logos on it found in a wooded area of east Harris County Friday morning sparked some interest in the search of a missing 3-year-old boy, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Kendrick Jackson was last seen on the morning of April 7 at his father's complex, the Fairfield Falls apartments, located in the 1200 block of Wilcrest Drive near Briar Forest Drive.

Volunteers with Texas EquuSearch have been focusing their search on wooded areas and abandoned buildings along Interstate 10 East near Beltway 8 in east Harris County.

A group of volunteers stumbled across the blanket, which has been the only item found during the weeklong search that might be connected to the boy's disappearance.

"We've spread out a little bit father. We're actually going to be putting some people in areas that we've already searched. There may be a foul odor there today that wasn't there three days ago. We're actually looking in the sky for buzzards," EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said.

Volunteers searching for Kendrick might be weary, but those who KPRC Local 2 spoke with said they are not going to quit.

Two 11-year-old girls dropped off donations they collected at a local grocery store to help Texas EquuSearch support the search and their command center.

"Because it's a kid and it could have been me or my friend or anyone that I knew, so I wanted to get involved to help find the kid," volunteer Ashley Serbe said.

A photo taken above the San Jacinto River off Interstate 10 near Monmouth Road in east Harris County on Monday captured an image that some searchers believe could be Kendrick. The image is still being enhanced to see if it could provide more clues.

Roderick Terrell Fountain is the father of 3-year-old Kendrick Jackson.

Houston police have charged Kendrick's father, Roderick Terrell Fountain, with injury to a child and filing a false police report. He is considered a suspect in the boy's disappearance. The injury to a child charge was filed because of bruises spotted on Kendrick prior to his disappearance, officials said.

Fountain was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning but it was reset to next month. He is being held without bail.

Investigators said Fountain has told authorities several different stories since Kendrick disappeared, including accounting for his time between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday.

Child Protective Services ordered that Fountain have no contact with his 3-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter that he has with his current wife. He has six other children as well with women who are evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. CPS officials would like those mothers to contact them because they want to check on the welfare of those children.

Anyone who wants to help in the search can stop by the Texas EquuSearch command center at the First Assembly of God Church in Channelview on Sheldon Road. Miller said volunteers should bring their own food and water. For more information, call (281) 309-9500.

Anyone with information about Kendrick's whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
