Where Is This Mother?
Houston police officers found Joana Rodriguez's body and her 5-day-old son Ray Cabrerra about 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 6000 block of Van Zandt in northeast Houston.
Investigators told News2Houston that Rodriguez (pictured, right) was found bound and gagged inside the trunk of a car. Her son (pictured, below) was found tucked away in another parked car with the air conditioner on, where he had been, apparently 15 hours, police said.
"The baby was just being held here for other people to show up and pick up the child," HPD detective C.T. Mosqueda said.
Mosqueda said that that he believes the motive in the case to be the desire of a female suspect to have a child.
Linda Anita Carty and Chris Anthony Robinson were charged with capital murder.
Police said that Zebediah Jerome Combs was charged on an unrelated felony possession of a firearm. Combs was not a suspect in the case, however he was with Carty and Robinson at the time of their arrest.
Police said that they are still searching for three other suspects in connection with murder and abduction.
Paramedics rushed baby Ray to Texas Children's Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. He was later released to his father Ramundo Cabrerra and relatives.
Cabrerra broke down in tears after being reunited with his son, and said that when his son was old enough he would tell him about his brave mother.
"I wanna to tell him (that) she was a beautiful wife," Cabrerra said. "And I'm gonna tell him the truth of what's happened."

Rodriguez, 20, and her son were abducted early Wednesday morning during an apparent home invasion robbery in northwest Houston.
The abduction happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the family's apartment at 10330 Westview Drive in the Spring Branch area.
Investigators said four men, three of whom wore masks, entered the apartment looking for money. The armed suspects ransacked the place and pistol-whipped the woman's husband and her cousin, authorities said.
"When her husband said that he didn't know where the money was, the suspects ran upstairs and took Miss Rodriguez and her baby," HPD spokesman Robert Hurst said.
The gunmen then fled the scene taking Rodriguez and her son with them, police said.
Investigators said the family did not know the gunmen, but believe that one of the attackers had been watching them.
Cabrerra said that he plans to bury his wife in her homeland of Guanajuato, Mexico.
Texas Equusearch has helped the family set up the Joana Rodriguez Trust Fund. People wishing to donate are encouraged to go by any Bank One branch.
