Gym Experience Tests Tracy's Agility, Stamina
Roger Applewhite Designs Her Workout
Testing limits and easing her way into a workout program is what Channel 2 producer Tracy faced at her first session at the gym.
Tracy Learns About Her Core
Trainer Roger Applewhite showed Tracy how to work the core of her body, using her lower back and ankles for stability.
"You don't want to be a fitness competitor or body builder," Applewhite said. "You just want to become a better you. The way I look at it is that I want you to become a stronger you."
The workout began with stamina training.
"You have to get your energy levels up and make sure that you are conditioned," Applewhite said. "Once you get to a certain level, I will teach you to be more intense with your workout."
Tracy and Applewhite worked on focusing on muscle groups and staying in control of the movement.
The duo moved onto weight work, where Applewhite advised Tracy to control the weights, instead of letting the weights control her.
They then moved on to squats on a Reebok board, which uses the core muscles to maintain balance.
"You have to remember to keep your core tight and use your arms for balance," Applewhite said.
He said that he was testing Tracy to see how fast she would fail to see how in or out of shape she is.
Applewhite ended the session with stretching and instructions to do 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five times a week.
